I bought my first electric rc airplane through bidorbuy (look below). It was a beautifull yellow electric rc airplane that did not cost me a whole lot of money. I could'nt wait to get it flying so off I went to the local sports ground for my first flight. It had a 2 channel radio - 1 channel for elevation, the other for power. By the way the plane had 2 electric engines, so that if you wanted to turn, you just had to decrease power on the side you wanted to turn to.
So off I went and hand launched without checking the wind or anything else - just wanted to get that yellow plane in the air.
Needless to say, but my first flight went wrong. As soon as it was in the air, it took of in the direction of the east stand. Probably the wind, but as I were so excited I forgot which was left or right. It was like riding a bicycle for the first time. It would'nt go the way you wanted to.
My new yellow electric rc airplane made a majestic swoop en went straight into the stand while I was frantically trying to manage the radio.
Luckily for me, there was'nt much damage. A broken prop and a huge dent in the left wing which I fixed, but after that always had to compensate when I went flying because of the weight factor.
But what I've learned is that with flying an electric rc airplane or any other rc plane for that matter, you dont take anything for granted.
Since then I've done a lot of reading, chatted to a lot of guys, and got me a flight simulator to practice with.
